Today (27 september) is the death anniversary of Mahendra Kapoor. Mahendra Kapoor has sung several memorable songs in his career. As many as 162 of his songs have been discussed in this blog so far.
There are still lots and lots of Mahendra Kapoor songs yet to be discussed. On this occasion, here is a song from “Kangan”(1971). When I went through the lyrics of this song (which were sent to me by Prakashchandra), I wondered what song it was, but when I heard the song, I immediately realised that I had heard this song before. It was quite a well known and popular song of its time and most people like me enjoyed listening to this song without being aware about its details. And then this song was forgotten with passage of time.
It is only now, four decades later that I have become aware about the details of this song. The song is written by Anjaan and its music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji. The song is picturised on Sanjeev Kumar and Mala Sinha. Mala Sinha too lip syncs in Usha Khanna’s voice. Usha Khanna in fact only hums in this song. That way this song is a “singing-humming”” genre of song as well.
